Description
Comfortable Hotel Close to Mount St. Helens
On May 18, 1980, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit Washington state, causing a debris avalanche on Mount St. Helens. That triggered a volcanic eruption on the mountain, which shot steam, ash, and rock debris 80,000 feet into the air; it took down forests and melted glaciers. In its wake, a massive crater was left at the peak of the mountain, effectively reducing its elevation by more than 1,000 feet.
The Best Western Battle Ground Inn & Suites is situated about 35 miles from Mount St. Helens, and you can peer out the building's library windows to see the massive peak. The mountain is tranquil today; you can survey the area by walking through more than 200 miles of hiking trails.
The inn serves as a fine home base before and after outdoor adventures. Downstairs, you can unwind at an indoor saltwater swimming pool and a hot tub almost totally enclosed in glass. A complimentary continental breakfast is served each morning; there are healthy options such as yogurt and whole fruit, and you can sample muffins, make your own waffle, or build your own breakfast table out of silverware.
Meanwhile, the hotel's oversize rooms are bright and tastefully decorated. Each feature either one king bed or two queen beds and a 32-inch flat-screen TV.

And if you obtain a special hiking permit, you can look inside the mountain's enormous crater.
