Spacious Suites on Fairy-Tale Grounds

In the early 1900s, Vermont governor Allen Miller Fletcher staked out a hill in the Green Mountains to build a castle-like resort. The area he picked is almost like something out of a fairy tale, tucked into the woods near Okemo Mountain. The area is called Castle Hill, and it’s where you’ll find The Pointe Hotel at Castle Hill Resort & Spa, a modern hotel that shares its property with some of Fletcher’s original Cotswolds-style buildings and gorgeous gardens, which earned the resort a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Here, guests relax in suites featuring fully equipped kitchens, fireplaces, and flat-screen TVs.

The brick-accented Pointe Hotel is spacious and comfortable, with facilities that put the focus on fitness and wellness. At the Aveda Concept spa, relax with massages, facials, and body wraps. The resort’s sunlit pavilion, lined with windows on both the walls and ceiling, makes for a soothing setting to take a yoga or Pilates class.

Breakfast and dinner are served onsite in the opulent wood-paneled dining room, where executive chef Alphonsus Harris uses fresh local produce to craft French-influenced dishes. While here, be sure to explore the region’s Okemo Valley, home to President Calvin Coolidge’s Homestead, more than a dozen covered bridges, and Okemo State Forest.

Proctorsville, Vermont: Quaint New England Town Close to Lakes and Trails

Proctorsville lies in the shadows of Vermont's Okemo Mountain. The family-owned mountain, which has more than 600 acres of generally uncrowded slopes and beginner-friendly trails available in colder months, has maintained its natural beauty by resisting overdevelopment. When the weather is warm, visitors can swim and fish in the area's lakes, and bicycle or hike across its network of trails, such as the Healdville Trail, which climbs to the mountain's 3,340-foot summit.

Nearby, Ludlow’s diverse culinary landscape includes classic Italian restaurants, Irish pubs, and steak houses. Boutiques and antique shops welcome window-shoppers to feast eyes on elegant gifts, collectors' items, and local art.
